I. Overview
China rapid economic development is attracting the world attention. In the context of economic globalization featuring internationalization of R&D and technology transfer, China burgeoning economy is now ushering in another excellent opportunity.
Jiangsu, located in the coastal area of eastern China and neighboring Shanghai, is highly opened up to the world. Being one of the well developing and most dynamic provinces in China, Jiangsu is experiencing a brand new period of economic boom. It annual growth rate of GDP averages to 15% over the past 5 years. And in the year of 2007, the per capita GDP reached to 4,428 US dollars.
With strong footing on industries, a good many research institutes and huge market potential, Jiangsu has become the important manufacturing hub in China and even across the world. There is a solid fundation here for the international technology transfer, application and diffusion. Jiangsu provincial government has been attaching great importance to the protection and utilization of intellectual property and has forged a more perfect legal environment. Jiangsu has become the first choice for the foreign companies to conduct the joint R&D and the commercialization.
Industries in Jiangsu have been active in innovation and technology interaction. They aspire for international cooperation and have vigorous needs for the world-class technologies. Also they are quite capable of absorbing, digesting and commercializing technologies.
To better match the technological needs from Jiangsu with the international innovative resources, and to promote the internationalization of innovation and R&D , Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology, PRC and Science and Technology Department of Jiangsu Provincial Government work together to hold the First China Jiangsu Conference for International Technology Transfer & Commercialization.
II. Objectives
- To build a public platform for international cooperation and interaction in technology and to promote the close partnership between the foreign institutes and companies here in Jiangsu
- To facilitate a long-term transnational linkage among the industry, academia and government from both sides to conduct the substantial cooperation in forms of commissioned R&D, joint R&D, international technology transfer and commercialization oriented by the innovative needs from Jiangsu .
- To provide a direct access for the world renowned R&D institutes, the technology transfer bodies and the companies to the technology needs and sponsored research from Jiangsu, therefore to explore the huge market opportunities in Jiangsu.

IV. Activities
1) Plenary Session (themes to be determined)
- Internationalization of R&D, specific means and cooperation mechanism of international technology transfer
- Latest development and innovation in key technologies
- Strategies and measures for Jiangsu to promote international technology transfer
- Information Briefings, Technology Display and Business Talks
2) Information briefings and advanced technology display from foreign R&D institutions will be organized in groups according to the different fields, that are highly innovative, close relevant to the industry development of Jiangsu Province and meeting with the needs from Jiangsu companies.
Technology interaction and business talks on international technology transfer, collaborative R&D and commercialization will be held between the experts from foreign institutes and companies here in Jiangsu.
The Focus Fields:
- New Energies and Environmental Protection (Solar photovoltaic, wind power generating facilities, LED technology, and environmental protection)
- Bio-tech and medicines
- Nanotechnology and its application
- Equipment manufacturing
- Modern agriculture and Social Development (food safety, water environment treatment etc.)
3) On-the-Spot Visits
According to the different fields, the participants will be arranged to visit their potential partners, the industrial clusters, the high-tech development zones and the R&D infrastructures.
